Q: The flows too have been extremely strong and it was not just a bout of short covering that we saw yesterday?
A: I think that is the best bit. That is what different in the rally that we saw yesterday. I think the two important telltale signs are that not just the FII figure of a Rs 1000 crore which was a large number after a two week break, so we got a larger FII cash market figure, a very large FII number in the futures and options market particularly Options. So put together they have pumped in a billion dollars yesterday cash plus F&O.
But even that aside if you look at the delivery percentages of most of the large index stock which went up yesterday, I think for most of them almost without exception the delivery percentage yesterday was 50%. So, one in two stocks was market for delivery in the largecap names. That is a very unusually high percentage of delivery and that gives you confidence that what happened yesterday was strong hand buying rather than just retail frenzy.
Coupled with that the fact that on a day when Nifty put on 100 points, stock futures actually shed open interest. I don’t recall a day in the past when that has happened. Yesterday was all about gushing momentum, everybody would have been feeling good in the market but traders did not build up positions.
So yesterday was not one of those typical futures frenzied retail traders picking up more positions or HNIs, some short covering. It looked like it was genuine institutional delivery based buying which had moved stock prices. Volumes were very large yesterday at 1,35,000 crore.
A combination of all those things; the FII numbers, the delivery stats, the volumes makes you believe that the market might just have shifted a gear. We will find out over the next couple of day, it may not be the case but it certainly appears a bit different from the last couple of breakouts that we have seen.

Dear WW ji

I feel they would ensure nifty close above 5555 on weekly basis to keep the euphoria high, even if nifty corrects to 5522-5511 levels then too it will just be counted as consolidation, unless it close below 5422-5433 on closing basis now.

I am still holding my nifty shorts, thanks as always for your views.

Have a nice day!

Dear Alok ji

I have been bearish since August and now september :(, so maybe I am not right person to comment on it as my views have already gone wrong for now, markets want to go up it appears, many seasoned investors and traders are already expecting a new all time within this calender year itself, which makes me more apprehensive.

I just trade small quantities for my own pleasure, good day!

So when you want to trade metal stock you should first check metal as a sector and then the index that is Nifty as an index... only when both are bullish you trade the particular metal stock on the long side..

-------- -----

I only look at LME :-( not even nifty ... ...

The ADX of 4 is very very bullish... now you might ask me why i bought PA two days back when the ADX was very bullish... i bought because its stoch was touching 90 and it showed distribution SELL but it fooled me..

------------------------

ADX of 40 you mean, i guess?.. ADX of 40+ just depicts a trend move.. how are you zeroing upon bullish assumption?...As per your example EMV are 0,0,3.. which i suppose doesn`t give a bullish option either.. i downloaded you excel and was going thru it.. Exactly how can i cook up the data like this?.. Is the excel format you made up yourself or is it downloadable as such from nseindia?..

"stoch was touching 90" ..i didnt understand this too.. Would be nice if you can elaborate upon using that excel and how your are gettin into a buy or a sell calls... Ya thnks a ton for sharing that excel...

N.B:- I hardly knows technical analysis... ...

Dear Radigz,

Am not a gr8 fan of Excel and am very ignorant in that aspect.

I have no clue how to load these indicators in an excel file.

I buy stocks only in LT portfolio, a few get sold when they decline in value by 5% to a max of 10%. The rest I hold until the reason for my buying them change drastically

I only trade futz n optionz in my trading portfolio. Mostly Nifty a few selected stocks that are quite liquid (INFY, RELIANCE, TATAMOTORS, LT, ICICI and AXIS BANK)

Here is how:
I identify stocks that are in a short term (few days to few weeks) trend - let us say, the trend is down as was the case in TATASTEEL.

Once I identify its support levels, I watch them, If they manage to hold those levels and bounce back, they are likely to make a good attempt at regaining their last higher level or at least part way there.

If you buy after the bounce occurs, the premiums of calls tend to go up as many want to jump on the back of the rising stock. The idea is to buy them when they are declining but at strong support level with a SL to protect capital erosion in case that level does not hold, despite being a major support.

Once your positions is gaining, all U have to do is to protect the gains - again via SL.

Similarly, when the market and stocks are rising, I identify resistance levels - and enter bearish positions as it approaches that level, if it gets taken out - so be it for a nominal loss. If that level is indeed a solid resistance and the rise of the stock ends - Well, you are in the driver`s seat.

Thanks for the offer of the data on the cement stocks, I now have to enroll for MS EXCEL course in the neighborhood school.

Cheerz

WW

BTW - Am not very impressed with the CMF, MFI on the Nifty
The RSI is doing good, but it is an indicator that is based only on the price. While the MFI is based on price and volume and so is the CMF.

The Slow Stoch is on the verge of issuing a short term sell - meaning correction to test the breakout level (5540) is on the cards.

In near term Nifty cud go 5650 at the best.A correction is most likely after that....

07 Sep 2010 22:33

Call premiums have come down sharply in past 3 days of the rally reflecting the over-bought position of the market.

Nifty will drop on Wednesday - if it falls below 5575, the next support is at 5520.

Shift money from Nifty stocks to mid-cap stocks - especially in high growth sectors like PSU banks, automotive companies, auto component manufacturers and GP/GC steel producers....
